For the 17th year in 2017, the KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge is back and this year with a more enthusiastic theme – “Let’s Be Victorious”.
The KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge will be held on Sunday, 14th May 2017. It’s objective is to provide opportunities to participants from all over the world who wants to test their physical and mental endurance. It is not an easy feat to conquer the top of the KL Tower. However, with practice, determination and proper strategy, it is not impossible to come out as the winner!
Yesterday, a Press Conference was held at KL Tower Megaview Banquet Hall, bringing participating partners of the KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge together for the launch of the event.
Mechanics of KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge
The race will start from the KL Tower Open Parking area. Participants will first have to run up the 800 metres hill from the open parking area to the KL Tower lobby. From the lobby, participants will then start climbing the 2,058 steps, all the way to the Megaview Banquet Hall that is located at 288 metres above ground level.
Since it’s inception in 1998, the best timing record for individual Malaysian men was 11 minutes 56 seconds whereas best timing record for individual Malaysian women was 14 minutes 51 seconds. I was told however, that best winner usually falls to international participant, usually from Nigeria.
Hence why, apart from vying for the overall cash prizes worth RM48,500 for all 9 categories available this year, there will also be an additional “The Best Timing” additional cash prize for individual Men and Women at RM2,000 each. This is to further boost the morale of our local participants to perform their best in the KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge.
